I can understand the anger and frustration that led to the creation of this bill. Illegal immigrants crossing the border from Mexico have caused some major economic strains on Arizona’s economy, but I am surprised that the bill has been embraced by Governor Jan Brewer and other elected officials. This law opens the door to legally sanctioned racial profiling and discrimination not unlike that of the Jews in war-torn Europe. It’s a witch hunt. Imagine never leaving your house without a passport or birth certificate, proof that you’re a U.S. resident; living in fear of arrest because an officer thought you looked suspicious. The number of illegals this bill could successfully identify will be negated by the multiple infringements that are likely to occur on the rights of legal Hispanic citizens.
